Background

This is a dark song that attempts to describe how it feels to be so “down” that there is no hope. Most people don’t want to talk about this place, although I think we have all been there at some point in our lives. The song has vocal, harmony vocal, acoustic guitars, and cello.

The Current Takes Me Down

The river is flowing it's coming for me
It waits till I'm tired and trying to sleep
It's then that I'm weakest I can't guard my soul
The river creeps in and I lose control

(Chorus)
I go round and round as the current takes me down
I try to keep my feet pointed downstream
Still and deep to a place where I can sleep
A sleep that can't be broken by my dreams

The river is cruel it's cold and it's wet
It makes me remember what I want to forget
The shadow behind me or the knife at my throat
I feel like I'm sinking while I'm trying to float

Now I am nothing I only feel pain
I'm tired and lonely with no one to blame
The rocks they are slippery the banks they are high
I'm losing my balance and I'm losing my mind
