Background

This is a playful song about a wonderful vacation spot off the western coast of Florida. We saw dolphins and manatees, collected more shells than we could fit in our suitcases, and had our own alligator in the backyard. The term “question mark people” refers to how everyone walks down the beach, bent over, looking for shells. The song has vocal, harmony vocal, a kids choir (yes they're my kids), acoustic guitars, and midi sounds.

Sanibel Island

Just hop on a plane that is heading down south
They'll give you a bagel to stuff in your mouth
Drive to Sanibel Island in a swell rental car
And in a few days you'll forget who you are

(Chorus)
The gators soak and the manatees roll
The question mark people go for a stroll
We all bare our skin and the sun takes its toll
As the starfish sits in a corner

We fill up our buckets with shells every day
We shop till we drop knowing soon we will pay
We pedal around on the crowded bike routes
And our toughest decision is where to dine out

The great blue herons stand on the shore
While osprey chicks in the nest yell for more
The roseate spoonbill has little to say
As the pelicans hurl themselves into the bay

So leave your old jacket and take off your jeans
There's somewhere to go that is lovely and green
Come to Sanibel Island and soak up some sun
Leave winter behind you might have some fun
