Background

This is a thought provoking song about the final moments before death. After losing three grandparents in a five-year period I needed to find some peace. The song seemed to stand on its own, so we kept it simple with vocal, harmony vocal, acoustic guitar, and acoustic bass.

When You Die

You cannot keep from growing old
You will not live forever
And as you fade from bright and bold
This thing you must consider

(Chorus)
Who will hold you when you die
While you pass and close your eyes
You won't want a doctor you won't want last rites
You'll want someone to hold you when you die

Your sounds will dim your colors gray
Your mind will turn to breathing
What will be left for you to say
Once you're faced with leaving

Who can you trust to be so near
As time weaves night and day
To hold you close to share the fear
Then let you slip away
