Background

This is the song I often end my gigs with. New Year’s Eve has always been a time of reflection for me, and this song came to me as I was going to some friends’ house for a party. As soon as I arrived I borrowed a guitar and disappeared into a bedroom for a while. Luckily they forgave me, and I got a song out of it. The song has vocal, harmony vocal, acoustic guitars, harmonica, and banjo.

A Little Worse For Wear

It's New Year's Eve about a quarter to one
Looks like the kissing and the shouting and the drinking are done
It's time to sit down and look back on the years

(Chorus)
A little older a little wiser a little worse for wear
A little older a little wiser a little worse for wear

It's a time for reflecting not a time for regrets
I can see what I've done and what I haven't done yet
It's a time to move forward not standing in fear

Looks like I've been through four cats and a lousy husband
Seven horses five dogs and a few boyfriends
I have a son and a daughter for whom I am here

Well I learned how to cook and I fixed up the yard
A little plumbing and some wiring they're not terribly hard
I've made some good friends and I've cried a few tears

So I'll dance in the rain and turn my face toward the sun
Watch the moon and the stars and let the wind have its fun
I will take my first steps into the new year
