A pleasant surprise in this stack of acoustic music was Bronwen Williams. Williams’ CD, “This Is Me, Is That You” is a refreshing piece of work. Williams’ debut is simple yet maintains a sophistication due to her intensely sweet voice and clarity of thought. Her use of storytelling within her songs is one of the purest forms I have heard in quite some time. Songs such as “I Had A Lover Once” and “I Took My Life” create a window to the soul of Williams while “Caleb’s Blues,” orchestrated in traditional blues format, displays the humor of motherhood. Throughout the song you can hear her son’s vocal track as he repeats, “mama” because he wants his action figures back. --- Peggy VanDuyne, Pulse of the Twin Cities, 05-19-99 |
