...The highpoint of the evening for me was hearing Bronwen Williams sing “I Had a Lover Once.” Even before that evening that was my favorite song. I was holding Cooper, the cover boy for the CD. We ran down front and stood just to the left of the stage when she started. I could tell Cooper (who is 10 months old) was entranced. After her set we went back to the front door. Cooper saw her and threw himself in her arms. When he realized what he’d done, he got scared (or embarrassed) and wanted to come back, but her performance was dramatic and warm enough to make Cooper’s action understandable. I got Bronwen’s CD, “This Is Me, Is That You,” after that performance and I was blown away by the simple beauty of the ideas and the sweetness of the music. This is a full grown woman with honest and full grown ideas. She sings as easily about death and suicide as she does about her children and hope. She can be lighthearted about a trip to Sanibel singing with her kids or cutting when she tells her ex-husband to “Get A Life.” She is a woman’s woman, with an open heart and a “Get Serious” attitude.
